A visit to the UP Town Center, the premier student hub located along Katipunan Avenue, reminded me of college and condo life for 5 years and how I had limited spaces where I can interact with people beyond Ateneo, where I studied. I remembered Starbucks as the only place where I could go to to unwind and relax in the afternoon and night, and Tia Maria’s at night which I think is gone now. And we all know how we spend our time at Starbucks – studying, with earphones and all.
Ayala Malls now redefines community living and mall culture through its newest development in the bustling northern metro. U.P. Town Center, which sits within convenient distance of universities, residential areas, dormitories, and churches, encourages the holistic growth of a vibrant student community. With the selection of new dining concepts and retail stores, it is a haven for students who want to unwind after a stressful day at the campus. Within the two years of its existence, it has been supporting the academic community by hosting local concerts, trivia nights, comedy shows and performances of homegrown talents of the universities.
This May, UPTC unveiled more exciting retail boutiques, casual dining outlets, a department store, and supermarket on an expansive 26,000 sqm-shopping floor plan, as part of its second phase of development. This is in addition to the already existing retail and restaurants that you have learned to love.
At the new wing, shopping for new, first-day-of-school outfit is made more convenient, as U.P. Town Center brings together most favorite fashion brands, such as Bench, Penshoppe, Bratpack, Birkenstock, Rookie USA, Artwork, Bambu, Claire’s, Tickles, Shoe Salon, Flying Dutchman, Just G., Bucket Feet, and Coalitions.

Above are lifestyle needs that I got from the tour (even if I’m not a student anymore haha) c/o Toys R Us. Also, a student’s life relies heavily on being interconnected throughout the day. Digital Walker, Datablitz, Wonder Photo Shop, and Take Your Pic keep you up-to-date with its wide array of gadgets and accessories for techie needs.

Last year, with the completion of the first phase of development, U.P. Town Center introduced a fresh take on dining concepts with relaxing indoor and outdoor settings, perfect for org meetings, group studies and even hanging out. This year, U.P. Town Center offers more new concepts and students affordable dining options with the opening of Pepper Lunch, Recovery Food, Jamba Juice, Sbarro, Rita’s and Wing Stop. Crisostomo, Wangfu Chinese Bistro, Ramen Nagi, and The Clean Plate are also there to satiate your appetite for local flavours and asian fusion.
My favorites are Rita’s, Ramen Nagi and J.Co and I wish i could have had them when I was still living in katipunan!
This summer, U.P. Town Center provides the student community with more reasons to enjoy the school break with a fair, fashion show, and dj music fest for them to turn up to.
Upon completion in 2016, U.P. Town Center will boast of world-class cinemas, an activity area where performers from the academe can showcase their talents and hold special events, serene green landscapes and relaxing water features that embrace the natural beauty of its surroundings, office spaces, and open grounds for student recreation.
As a dynamic setting where students, and residents in the community can converge, U.P. Town Center blends the academe into the retail front, meeting the holistic needs of the community as well as allowing its culture to flourish.
The last phase of the mall (37,000 sqm), which will house more retail stores, restaurants, offices and cinemas, will be completed in 2016. With the vision of being a place where students, workers, and residents in the community can thrive, ALI aims to maximize land value by constructing a mixed-use development that blends the academe into the retail front, to meet the holistic needs of the community and allow its culture to flourish. This project will feature four Retail Buildings; a Supermarket and Department Store Block; Academic Support and Cultural Facilities; a Cinema Block; and an Office and Retail Building. These spaces are specially designed to promote a close collaboration between industry and the academe, as well as retail offerings that present opportunities for on-the-job training and incubation of start-up businesses.
Good job Ayala and UP and I really think that this will be a great venue for students and aspiring entrepreneurs!
