Peach ImPerfect

Peach is so hot right now in the beauty world. But if you have been reading my blog for 6 years, orange is one my go-to colors for eyes and lips as it just suits my warm undertone. When I tried peach on my eyes, I just got that instant blooming effect as I would usually get from orange. I think I’ll be wearing more of this color!

So my take is a monochromatic yet glossy and shiny peach. Just like a juicy tube! I started off with the newest release from BYS Philippines, the Peach palette which just screams all the colors I ever wanted in a palette.

The Peach palette compose mostly of really pigmented warm shimmer shades but there’s this one matte color in the middle that is my favorite!

On my eyes, with a bushy brow using the new MAKE UP FO EVER Brow product brow liner which has super sharp edges, the peachy orange color on my lid looks just so fruity!

I then decided to play! I thought of placing a lip gloss on top of the shadow on my lid and it turned out really juicy!

Processed with VSCO with c8 preset

For the cheeks, I used these orange-y monos from MAKE UP FOR EVER irridescent shadows in I-752 and I-745 , the new glitters from BYS, and top it all of with this LA SPLASH glitters in Fuzzy Flamingo.

The highlight is courtesy of this new Scult & Glow which made the finish a little but wet, and the lips with the new MAX Factor Matte lippy in 10 Sunkiss which is just so creamy matte and pigmented.

Of course, the look will be complete with my newest launch at www.mikkigalang.com/shop, The Peary lace front wig. It’s a salmon pink wavy (kinda messy) styled angled cut bob which makes the overall look not so polished yet so peach perfect.

What you think about this look? I just had fun creating this and I hope you can do the same as you join my blogversary giveaway! Good luck!

#Halloween2016 3: Wolf and Woman

“Some days I am more wolf than woman and I am still learning how to stop apologizing for my wild” – Nikita Gill

Processed with VSCO with c8 preset

I read this powerful quote from an IG post of a friend and former teacher and I got inspired to create the 3rd look for the #Halloween2016 series. It was quite sad that Halloween has come to an end because it’s always the time for transformations and creative expressions but it’s always halloween in this blog, isn’t it? =)

October was such a crazy wild fun month with all the weddings, parties and events I attended, but also because I got inspired by them. One was the wedding and uncommon love of my HS batchmates described by the visuals below.

I was waiting for the Mehron silver and gold pigment/paint to arrive to create this glam wolf look (you can also use some techniques here to recreate the famous animal Snapchat filters hehe) but I realized that I have a white lipstick that I got from the Artist Rouge event and I used that as base of the half-wolf face.

Key Techniques Applied:

  • Apply platinum eyeshadow on top of¬†the white pigment¬†to create a stunning frost¬†base
  • Use a very sharp/precise liquid eyeliner to create feathery strokes that would define points of the face – brows, pointed eyeliner,¬†contour areas
  • Smudge the sharp lines with glitter creams and shadow some with similar hues of¬†pigment
  • Repeat drawing of sharp feathery lines

Watch the Halloween series at my YT channel this week. Hope you had a great one!

#Halloween2016 1: Broken Speaking Doll

My second look for #Halloween2016 is a spring doll that’s scary AF! I asked help from my MAKE UP FOR EVER friends this time and we created this look with artist Maws Diaz. I like that MUFE always has nice pre-set looks that halloween party-goers can avail at store.

See below products used! Here’s a saver tip I learned from this experience: mix lip gloss with red and black lipstick to make fake dripping blood!

But there were so many good launches locally (we launched Pink Sugar and Sleek at @DigifyPH and we’re happy it’s doing very well) and globally, as well. Tony Moly’s Liquid Lips and MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Acrylic are¬†also one of those¬†creamy formulations in liquid lip¬†format that I liked, reviewed and will share to you in this giveaway, where you can win all these.

This MAC x Star Trek lippie is also a fierce out-of-the-world addition to my limited collection which I’m sharing to you. Tony Moly’s Panda’s Dream is a collection that at first we would think is just cute outside, but is also super-pigmented and performing inside. And of course, my favorite 90’s beauty must-have: The brown matte lippie from Maybelline which I also reviewed here.

Waterblend

I’ve been getting makeup requests since my Bora trip last year and I’ve been eyeing on the best waterproof cosmetics¬†ever since.¬†Whenever i go travel, hang out or just shoot by¬†beach or play in the pool,¬†I love having my brows, base and eye makeup still intact because¬†ahem mermaid…. But I think that these products are also the most sweat-proof or long-lasting makeup that you can use at work or play. Check out the products and look I created with them below!

Processed with VSCO with c8 preset

This photo was taken before reviewing the products I’ll showcase here. I spent 2 staycations the past months so I had the chance to swatch ’em water-resistant products, especially the new ones from MAKE UP FOR EVER which has a great Aqua line of waterproof makeup.

Processed with VSCO with c8 preset

Just recently, MUFE released a waterproof foundation called Water Blend and it’s one of the greatest foundations on Earth. I think that while it’s truly water-proof, the “blend” is what is truly astounding about it as it melts into the skin, disappears and gives a fresh mid-coverage that’s also buildable yet lightweight.

Processed with VSCO with c8 preset

I tested 3 MUFe bases after I swam and took a bath (mind the strength of the shower!)

Processed with VSCO with c8 preset

Truly, these are the most powerful water-proof foundations and concealer I’ve¬†tested and¬†below are other properties I like about them:

  • MUFE Water Blend Foundation* [PHP 2700] – It’s a bit tricky at first because it really looks like and feels water (80% water) but when blended via sponge (I prefer using this than fingers on this one) it absorbs perfectly and gives a dewy finish. My makeup in this look is a mid-coverage as I mixed it with the two products below. It feels very comfortable and lasts up to 8 hours.
  • MUFE MAT+ Velvet Foundation [PHP 2700] – This is one of my favorite foundations – I think I met my forever here LOL! MAT+ Velvet is mid-full coverage and it may seem cakey and hard or dry when¬†before or when blending, but it just gives a non-oily matte finish that evens out my imperfections after finishing and drying it out. I’ve always used this on music festivals, and I heard my blogger MUA friends use these for their brides too!
  • MUFE Full Cover Extreme Camouflage Cream Concealer [PHP 2100] – This is second repurchase and it’s one of my top hard-working concealers. I’ll review this in detail but this one just doesn’t crease, cake or wear easily with full flawless coverage meant to hide extreme imperfections – I use it on my upper lip¬†to cover green marks caused by shaving!

Processed with VSCO with c8 preset

See how water just slides to the skin!

Processed with VSCO with c8 preset

Generally, cream products are more water-resistant (like dissolves like!! – except for that Water foundation!!) so it’s best to have a neutral dewy or satin look which i created more with the below¬†products.

Processed with VSCO with c8 preset

I used more MUFE products¬†from the infamous AQUA line which we’ve known as water-proof since ages for eyes and even lips.

Processed with VSCO with c8 preset

I’ve made a preview¬†of the Aqua XL here, the newest addition to the AQUA¬†line, and I thank heavens for this launch, as well as the AQUAMATIC launched last year!

Processed with VSCO with c8 preset

In my opinion, these are the most pigmented and strong liners i’ve ever tried. See how I scratched it even with my nails after soaking in water and they’re still there, especially the M (matte) variants!

I didn’t use¬†the non-neutral shades in this look but I swatched them anyway. Below are reviews of these products from the brand’s Aqua line, alongside Sleek Matte Me which apparently also performs well with¬†water:

  • MUFE Aqua XL liners [PHP 1250]*
  • MUFE Aqua eyeliner [PHP 1000+]
  • MUFE Aquamatic [PHP 1400]*
  • MUFE Aqua Cream [PHP 1750]
  • MUFE Aqua Liquid Liner [PHP 1600] –¬†

A Show-Stopping Artistry

Color goes hand in hand with personality, like an artist and their performance. While makeup artists need a wide range of colors to meet the creative and artistic needs of the stage, each one is also looking for his or her iconic shade. Each artist searches for the color that will reveal his or her own singularity. And now the palette and choices are endless… with new ingenuity and intense color.

‚ÄúLipstick is to makeup what the last brush stroke is to painting… the ultimate, perfectly contained touch of color that completes the work of art. And just like in art, makeup artists need an infinite palette of colors. This is why I have developed such a wide range of new ARTIST ROUGE lipsticks, I always want to give makeup artists a profusion of shades and textures to sublimate and create their perfect piece of art.‚ÄĚ –¬†Dany Sanz, Founder & Artistic Director of MAKE UP FOR EVER

Processed with VSCO with p5 preset

I am a complete fan of MAKEUP FOR EVER pigments and the Iconic Swedish Duo Icona Pop ever since they started in 2009 so when I saw online that there will be a collab, I told myself I need to get a pair of lippies! My first love for them started with the below video wherein they showcased The House artists and performers (including gay and transgender ones) who just have so much love for their work, performance and passion.

The Swedish group ICONA POP, formed by Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo, takes its inspiration from electro house, punk and indie pop music. The two singers, who shot to international stardom with their 3x RIAA certified platinum hit ‚ÄúI Love It‚ÄĚ ft. Charli XCX, and opened for Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and One Direction on their respective tours. Returning to the center stage with their 2015 single ‚ÄúEmergency‚Äú, the duo joins forces with MAKE UP FOR EVER in all their artistic creations and stage performances, in collaboration with the band‚Äôs makeup artist Colby Smith.

‚ÄúMakeup is so important for us when we are on stage, to do something fun for people. You can become a superwoman with just some blush and a black lipstick. We express ourselves through music — but also through how we dress and how we wear our makeup. MAKE UP FOR EVER is perfect for us because it‚Äôs edgy and cool — plus there are so many different colors to play with!‚ÄĚ – Icona Pop

Moi in C603 – a universal blue shade

In the event held at The Brewery at The Palace, we got the chance to preview this show-stopping collection. It got really intense for me and my beauty friends because it was a lot of swatching on the lips and arms but I was so happy I was able to find some shades for me.

Processed with VSCO with p5 preset

I know Artist Roufe by MAKE UP FOR EVER and this formula I must say, has gotten better. I’m hands down to the brand’s pigment and wear, but the new collection has better texture and wear as it has novel complex waxes from Mallow and Macadamia.

Processed with VSCO with p5 preset

The shades are divided into two: C (cream) and M (matte) on their tubes. Regardless of finish, the texture and feel is thinner and more satin compared to their other lippies.

Processed with VSCO with p5 preset

art

I spotted some very nice MLBB shades, dark hues (there’s black and blue!), and bright pastel ones!

Processed with VSCO with p5 preset

MAKE UP FOR EVER said that the color pigments are grinded three times, reducing and streamlining their size. Because of the identical, micro-fine pigments, the intensity of light reflection and the radiance of color are heightened and the color impact on lips is very powerful and immediate.

Processed with VSCO with p5 preset

Truly, just with one swipe, the color pay-off is outstanding! Consistency and coverage is just top of the charts.

FSL-ARTISTROUGE2016

I am just so excited for this collection which will be available September 15, 2016 in the Philippines. Each lipstick retails at P1250, and I think it’s worth that with such performing products and high-precision bullet design of the packaging.

#ProSculptPH

2 weeks ago, one of my favorite makeup brand invited us for an afternoon of arts, self-development and creativity at Sip & Gogh, in relation to a launch of a pro-sculpting line which is very MAKE UP FOR EVER. The brand and founder (Dany Sanz) started making business out of makeup which was realized first and consistently through art Рpainting, theatre, film.

Processed with VSCOcam with a8 preset

The launch was held at Sip & Gogh, which is the first-of-its-kind paint and sip studio in the country. It was my first time in that place, and a long time Рprolly years!! Рafter doing some traditional art РI used to do theatre arts. And since my month has been all about business, it was the perfect way for me to relax and refocus my mind.

Processed with VSCOcam with a8 preset

The studio is a product of passion for fine wine and good art, according to the founders. Van Gogh’s fascinating life story and his astonishing masterpieces made them decide to partly name the business in his honor.

Processed with VSCOcam with a8 preset

I like that this place allows my creative side while enjoying people, art and really delicious wine! Will definitely be back with friends who like artsy and creative things!

Now for makeup and launch, it was a great start for the brand because they’re strengthening their contour – I like the term scuplting more!! – lines which I think a pigmented makeup brand with great quality and wearability can definitely pull off.

The queen of the line: A pro-sculpting cream palette!!

Processed with VSCOcam with a8 preset

Processed with VSCOcam with a8 preset

Now just by the look of it, I can see how professional and creative this palette can get! The packaging is like paint, with highlight, color, contour and blush shades. Lately, I’ve been realizing how more long-wearing and deep a contour can be using a cream formula. I’ve always used powders because I tend to layer, but I’ve been friends with creams and while they’re less convenient in terms of application, they tend to really last. A blog post / review of these products coming soon including this one.

But what’s more interesting about it is how detailed and less canned it is when it comes to educating makeup users about contouring. We’ve known a specific kind of contouring – well, because of the Kardashans 1- but I believe the below guide more because each person’s face shape is different and we don’t want to overdo this technique especially at day time.

Processed with VSCOcam with 4 preset

I’ve road tested the brow, lip (comes with a highlighter end), and the palette and I must say: top of the charts when it comes to pigmentation, professional quality and most especially, wearability. With my round face shape, I can contour my face deeply yet not so pageant-ish with these products.

Moreover, the products – together with the face painting activity below – demonstrate how to balance out light and shadow and bring out high-precision definition when it comes to contouring/sculpting. The products dont feel so heavy and intense!

There were a lot of things that I learned from the activity, thanks to MAKE UP FOR EVER and Sip & Gogh!! Make-up/color/paint wise, I learned that brushes are very important when it comes to precision. Also, consistency and blending¬†are very much dependent on the kind/quality of the paint or¬†product and how you can make the pigments more fluid. And lastly, aside from remastering my color theory, that expression/art is really dependent on what’s inside you. Cliche, but very true. =)

11 Kylie Lip Kit Dupes

I am fascinated by King¬†Kylie’s glam, specifically with how clean, sexy and on point her makeup is, such that her own brand of ¬†liquid lipsticks and lip liners got sold out immediately after 30 seconds. But what really interests¬†me is how she has found and marketed her own signature colors which i’ve been loving lately because they’re the kind of neutrals that suit my tone and lips well. So here’s a list of dupes availably locally¬†(not at all about textures though) that I’ve studied. It¬†took me a while to figure out Kylie’s colors, really! They’re tricky!!

Kylie Lip Kit dupes

Kylie Lip Kit dupes

I’ve read a lot of good reviews about Kylie’s lip kit, which comes with a lip liner and liquid lipstick – a format I’ve been loving. I love the comments¬†about its formulation (they say it’s even better than its rumoured manufacturer, Colour Pop). But what I love most is the set of neutral colors and how they adapt to different lips as you can see in this viral Buzzfeed review featuring 3 women with different skin tones.

Candy¬†K is described by Refinery as “a dusty rose; I’d describe it as a light ’90s brown”. My favorite is Dolce K which appears darker and more warm neutral brown ¬†or toffee than Candy K. Of course, True brown K is self explanatory and you can see how real the hue¬†is and how it complements all skin tones.

I don’t have the $29 lip kit but I’ve pretty much spent a day or two just looking at swatches, reviews and blogs and comparing them with mine and what I have. I must admit that they’re pretty much unique such that even if I have 12 products here (mix of gifts and buys), I that I¬†i’d have to still mix some to be able to arrive at the exact color.

Kylie Lip Kit dupes

The Liquid Lipstick dupes from brands Sleek and LA Splash

The Liquid Lipstick dupes from brands Sleek and LA Splash

In my opinion, King Kylie’s Candy K and Dolce K are quite the same, except that Candy is more rose than Dolce. As such, I’m going to compare both in the below¬†swatchfest. Most of these are matte and liquid lipsticks that I love lately, exposed in a warm light.

Swatches of Kylie Lip Kit dupes

Swatches of Kylie Lip Kit dupes

In order of the dupe-st (is there such a word lol), see the reviews below:

Identified 6 Closest dupes to Candy K (neutral/dusty rose). This was much easier as there are lots of rose shades in the market, but still, the level of its “brownness”is hard to find.¬†

  • Sleek Matte Me in Birthday Suit (matte liquid lipstick)* [PHP 450 ] – I think this will be the closest to that beautiful adapting neutral rose color, and to the¬†finish and feel as well, based on the reviews. The color is almost exact and unlike the others, it has this faded rose color which prolly explains the “dusty” description of the product’s color. Also, there’s this instant volumizing/plumping effect due to the not-so-drying and pigmented formula and great brush. Plus, probably the cheapest in this line up. I highly recommend this product and spot this on your next department store visit as these run out quick!
  • Inglot in 405 (matte lipstick) [PHP ] [PHP 800 approx]- Next would be this shade, but this appear darker and a bit more orange under warm light. It’s finish is matte, but not like the liquid lipstick formula. I’ve almost finished this tube because I love its color despite its quite drying formula.
  • LA Splash in Ginny¬†(matte liquid/mousse lipstick) [PHP 600]* – I just bought different LA Splash liquid lippies last year but I also received some from DTC online like this one. I will not discuss this new brand formula yet, but this color is also a close match, with¬†nice pigmentation and consistency.
  • LA Splash in Belle (matte liquid lipstick) [PHP 600] – I bought this one abroad, and while the finish is different (very Nars Orgasm!), the rose brown color is evident.¬†
  • MAC in Kinda Sexy (matte lipstick) [PHP 1000]* – This famous MAC shade looks more peach under warm bright light, but under flash at night, it looks more pink on me. I heard Whirl is a better dupe for Kylie’s line

Dolce K (toffee brown/neutral shade) is a bit harder. Most neutral brown shades have an orange under tone but these are closest that I have found. Regardless as dupes, I like these colors very much especially for my warm skin tones.

  • MAKE UP FOR EVER in MAT 3 [approx PHP 1500]* – This Rouge Artist Intense line is almost always sold out too (a fav of Maggie Wilson!), because it has this nice neutral shade that fits any kind of tone. It’s a bit warmer than Dolce K, but I can see some hints of the kind of brown present in Kylie’s. The product is a bit drying and less matte than others but the color is just nice!
  • SPARK in Naked Desire [PHP 800] – purchased this baby at Passionfly Bazaar last year. This line is owned by actress Karel Marquez, who perfected this shade of orange-brown. It’s quite hard to transfer at first (product is quite hard so balms are needed) but it’s all worth it in terms of consistency and pigmentation, with little drying of lips.
  • MAC in Spice (Lip Pencil) [PHP 1100] – I bought this pencil last year and figured it doesn’t have a lipstick counterpart, but its fits all of the shades below (and above rose colors as well) when outlining and contouring my lip, with a shade that’s¬†very Dolce

Lastly, of course, True Brown K is much easier to match. I found these shades earlier than the Lip Kit launch LOL and they suit me very well! More details on my dark lippie blog post soon but below are previews.

kk

So there it is! 11 possible dupes of the Lip Kit Kylie brand that I recommend!! Best awards go to Sleek, and the True Brown K dupes (MAC and LA Splash) because they resemble the colors very well. Do you know of any more lipsticks that mimick these colors? Let me know!

Post-Christmas Unboxing

I got super busy over the holidays preparing for a pageant, and for this site, that I almost forgot to open my Christmas gifts from friends in brands, and gifts from relatives. I will be unboxing some below (and giving away some as well!) and will be sharing my thoughts on some packages or gift packs which I think are great sampling opportunities as a beauty enthusiast, because you get testers or full/sample sizes at discounted prices. So let me share what I got, and my likes below:

First, MAKEUP FOR EVER! They sent me a package which contains a nice orange pouch with the iconic logo of the brand. This is one of the many holiday kits that they’re promoting, but I really like this one because it gives variety, in sample/travel sizes of their best-sellers. I love the Step 1 primer, specifically, this gray variant. I have a full size of this and just consumed the tube last year. Thumbs up also for their super pigmented eyeliners (pencil and liquid) – they just have the most staying ones as well – and the lip liner. ¬†If these are still available, I suggest this one to people who are starting to use the brand, because it’s just a nice introduction to their powerful products.

Processed with VSCOcam with c9 preset

We all know THE BODY SHOP as something we give and receive (Body washes that i love!!) from our relatives especially during Christmas.

Processed with VSCOcam with c9 preset

But this time, The Body Shop is partnering with international charity WaterAid to help transform lives through access to safe water. For every specially selected gift bought *labelled with a drop symbol, WaterAid can provide a family in Ethiopia with one day of safe water! This is really good good news!

Processed with VSCOcam with c9 preset

I got the chance to donate when I shopped at their new modern store at Megamall (love the new look!).

They gave me a few of their boxes and my favorites are below, boxed in this nice Christmas packaging. They have an Olive set (my favorite body line, aside from the Shea Butter – so buy these at packaged rates while they’re at it) which I got for the donation. I also like the Frosted Plum collection which are complete special edition set of lotions, washes and scents with fruity-floral Plum extracts from the orchards of Turkey!! Lastly, they have a color set and my fav is this Grooving Gold palette (I have always loved the pigment and shimmers of their eye colors).

I also have my favorites from ETUDE HOUSE which is making Christmas the cutest ever! They launched the Snow Dessert collection for the holiday, which are all about cuteness and sugary sweetness. I got a cheek and lip tint which looks so yummy and cute and pigmented, but i also see these hand cream packs and Collagen kits which I definitely need at this point in time. I just love Etude skin care!

Hi BURT’S BEES! if there’s as skin care brand¬†that I wanna give to all my girls, it would be this because they’re 90-100% natural. I’m so happy that they’re packaged in nice boxes, especially the lip balms, which i highly recommend! If there are still stocks, I suggest you hoard these babies!

I’m so happy that they have more lip balm scents and variants. Also, they’re now in Zalora!!

For BENEFIT COSMETICS, they want holidays (and even ordinary ones) to be fun and extra sparkly. From the success of the Swarovski x Bling Brows, comes a limited edition They’re Real mascara with crystals on the packaging! But I also like that they have these limited edition Party Poopers that come with the best travel sizes. If they’re still available, I suggest getting the one with Porefessional and all the highlighter products!

Now,¬†MAC, which is of course a nice gift suggestion to girls who like makeup. Now theyir holiday sets are nice because they have the best-sellers alongside some special branded merchandise and items that look nice too! Value for money indeed. I got this set from a ¬†friend and I’m loving the Fluidline and Dual brush 242 /209!

Lastly, a LANCOME set which we always get every year from my aunt who loves hoarding from this brand. Now this package is really big as it contains special pouches, brushes, and limited ed/holiday eyeshadow pallettes, lippies and of course, testers!! Not really a fan of all the products but my favorites here are the Bi-Facil and the pallettes (blush and eyeshadow), recommended to be given to solid Lancome fans!

#MGxMAKEUPFOREVER Holiday

It’s been months before my last workshop and event with MAKE UP FOR EVER, and just seeing the girls who support my blog for years was definitely inspiring for me, especially because I’ve been working on being back to real blogging. A few weeks ago, the brand invited me to demonstrated and talk about dramatic holiday looks and it was a nice play with the famous artist shadows that are being packaged for the holiday collection as you can see here. I got a holiday pouch and will share the contents very soon in the next entry!

Thank you girls for supporting me and the blog throughout the years despite me being MIA in beauty blogging. Will definitely get in touch with you soon!
