Famous for the hit single “Language” which I first heard in a club in Thailand few years ago, Porter Robinson is one of the most unique and talented artists in the electro house genre in my opinion. I have instantly fallen in love with his musical style and when I heard that he’s coming back to Manila as part of his World‘s Asian tour, I definitely didn’t let this pass.
With the amount of parties I attended the past few weeks, I told myself to finally rest (read: stay at home!) this June. But when I heard that Porter Robinson is going to Manila for The Palace Pool Club‘s official opening, I did it again haha!
I have never been to The Palace Pool Club until that night and it’s a grand place to hang out with friends. The colorful lights are all over the pool, stage and cabana’s (thus our overexposed pictures haha) but it’s really a pretty display! It’s the closest (well, a bit grander) #Laboracay experience that you can have in Manila, with a good party crowd.
I was so delighted to see friends and fellow bloggers in that event. Talking and bonding with them made me forget the heat and lack of air that night because of the number of people present in the pool club. =)
Aside from Porter, there were local acts as well but I only got to see Up Dharma Down (I’m such a fan!), Martin Pulgar and Marc Naval.
Now when Porter started to play, I immediately rushed to the front because I wanted to see him up close. And it was all worth it! He looks very cute, performs very well and delivers every song that he plays!
Below are more photos of him as he played songs from his debut album, Worlds.
I researched a bit (haha!) and found his early influence of video games. That really explained the kind of visuals and musical style that I really witnessed during the show. As a gamer myself, I can kind of hear Divinity (see below video) being played in RPG’s. This just reminded me how I would buy limited edition soundtracks of Final Fantasy, a nd all the other games I played when I was a kid
He played Divinity which is one of my favorites from his debut album. In fact, My SCM player in the album includes 2-3 of his songs haha. I was waiting for Lionhearted, Language and Sea of Voices but I got too tired already (#LolaMode) so i left before the show ended.
But it was really a fun electro house showcase. Not a lot of people would like it, but I’m a fan. He killed the show and I wanna see more of him in the future (Coachella, maybe? we can dream here.)
