#BenefitLovesMikki

Celebrating 5 years of beauty blogging with my loyal readers and Benefit Cosmetics. Taught some travel makeup (lots of highlighting!) and basic photography (or Instagraphy hehe). Thank you so much for the continuous support and here’s to more beauty and beyond stories in the coming years!

#MGxMAKEUPFOREVER Holiday

It’s been months before my last workshop and event with MAKE UP FOR EVER, and just seeing the girls who support my blog for years was definitely inspiring for me, especially because I’ve been working on being back to real blogging. A few weeks ago, the brand invited me to demonstrated and talk about dramatic holiday looks and it was a nice play with the famous artist shadows that are being packaged for the holiday collection as you can see here. I got a holiday pouch and will share the contents very soon in the next entry!

Thank you girls for supporting me and the blog throughout the years despite me being MIA in beauty blogging. Will definitely get in touch with you soon!

Makeup at Noel Bazaar

I signed up for Noel Bazaar, one of the country’s leading Christmas Expo’s, as featured blogger and entrepreneur for their series of bazaar legs for the holidays. I was invited to do two makeup workshops (on a big stage!!) so below are some photos of those + my great finds at this huge expo.

The bazaars in Filinvest, SMX and WTC were the most-selling legs for me and Mikka’s Closet. I like how they organize and attract all kinds of customers with music, various stores and merchandise, celebrity appearances,  shows and demo’s. For sure, it’s one grand sale of almost everything and anything but entertaining as well.

Inglot #ColorPlay

Last February, together with Inglot Philippines, I organized my nth makeup workshop. I was so grateful that the event was attended very well (the most so far, I think), and despite the fact that I wasn’t able to do one-on-one’s because of the limited time, I was even happier to know that you learned a lot seeing from your posts. Normally, I would detail/summarize the lessons that I tackled in the workshop, but the blog posts below just made my job easier and I felt so happy that you got a lot re the color wheel, harmonizing, balancing and mixing colors and just being not afraid of colors. Thanks Marielle and Maiko Kimberly!

Anyway, I just wanna thank you all for always supporting me and my craft. Thank you to those who would attend my workshop over and over again (believing that I can share even more every workshop). Thank you to the Inglot team, Pauline, Sara, Mark, Lester etc for helping me with the videos, teasers, the actual workshop, and for making me look pretty that day!

MY MAKE UP FOR EVER HOLIDAY WORKSHOP

When MAKE UP FOR EVER asked me to hold a workshop (which they did for the first time!), I immediately said YES, because I like brands that share the same passion as I have – ART and makeup. Timely, the new site is up and I wanted to meet you all!

Mikki Blogger v2

I heard a feedback from one of those who attended that she’s been participating in a lot of beauty workshops but she never experienced it to be very hands-on, fun and communicative. I was really happy to hear this, and knowing that a lot of you had fun based on your posts! I really like teaching makeup by practice because that’s how I learned. Hope we can have more of this and remember the key learnings: balance and color! Special thanks to the MAKE UP FOR EVER team for giving me the opportunity. Love love you all! More photos below! Key lessons from workshop below:

During the workshop (and I know I have already talked about a lot of things from the past 6), I discussed some holiday looks and inspirations that I’ve researched and felt sharing. The last makeup party I hosted, I talked about night makeup – and how one can be very creative because of the dimension of lights, shadows, etc – and holiday is quite similar which makes me love it really. I like being expressive (and sometimes festive) with my makeup.

So I shared two looks which you can explore this season:DSCF3159 mufe1 DSCF3552 DSCF3542 DSCF3535 DSCF3523 DSCF3521 DSCF3512 DSCF3503 DSCF3496 DSCF3486 DSCF3460 DSCF3457 DSCF3404 DSCF3371 DSCF3364 DSCF3360 DSCF3341 DSCF3303 DSCF3297 DSCF3294 DSCF3268 DSCF3267 DSCF3252 DSCF3247 DSCF3229 DSCF3214 DSCF3188
1. Layering / Placing shimmers/pigments – which is really based on the basics of eye contouring (highlighting the eyes) but making it more dimensional. With the use of the new Artist Shadows especially the diamond variant as base, and placing extra dimensional pigment/shimmer on areas such as the upper and lower inner corner of the eyes, and the brow bone. Mixing colors/shimmer products can also enhance the effects wanted.
2. Lower Liner – Which really fascinates me especially nowadays. I demonstrated how that can be done, using colors that are nice for the season – lime green, cobalt blue, military green, and how that can be worn as well.

Beauty Theraphy: D&V & Shu Uemura

A few weeks ago, I conducted a makeup and hair workshop in cooperation with D&V Hairpieces, a luxurious hair clip-on extensions brand made of 100% human hair, Shu Uemura, and my cousin-in-law/blogger Shari Macainag. When D&V asked me to do this, I was really thrilled because I’ve been an extension user ever since I started this blog – since I had to cut my hair before and I had a phase wear I would wear full-head wigs – and I really wanted to share my hair experiences.

Now hair extension education is really needed if one needs such a product. From proper application, selection of the right product and color, caring for the hair, to blending and styling. During the #beautytheraphy which started with a makeup workshop , I discussed basic color and lighting theory because really, matching hair color and shaping the hair or face is very much the same as the concept of foundation matching and contouring/highlighting. I also emphasized how the latter should be done by only targeting areas where needed, both for hair and makeup. (I will share more of this through a tutorial especially now that I have lighter and longer hair – and I love how D&V has single clip-on’s to selectively volumize my thinning hair. )

It was a fun hands-on workshop and sort a meeting with our readers! Shari was able to discuss in detail as well her hair and makeup journeys. We then challenged the participants to do a makeover to one of their friends and despite limited time and resources, I think they learned a lot. Thank you to everyone who joined and of course, to D&V, Shu Uemura and Shari!

#MGxMACTechnique 2 : Invitation Out

The topic of the second #MikkiGalangxMACTechnique is Invitation Out and during the workshop Em and Mike of MAC Megamall demonstrated their specific techniques when it comes to day to night looks. Before the demonstration, Em, which used to be my counter artist/consultant at MAC Trinoma, where I would be crazy about new lip colors (haha), explained how makeup technique is unique to each artist and that these workshops provide exposure to what can work to an individual. Now, here are the key learnings from the event:
1. Volumizing lips can be done through Em’s Cupid’s Bow technique
2. Selecting the right colors for you using the Color Chart
3. Blending comes after placing the product/pigment or after drafting a certain shape – Mike’s technique is actually very good because versus creating an illusion of a shape right away which could lead to a very precise shape, blending after can allow for correction and further softening of the edges. He would put for example, the contour, highlight and blush in one step, and then blend both afterwards.

#MGxMACTechnique 1 : Invitation Out

The first #MikkiGalangxMACTechnicque was an afternoon full of discovery! Dar of MAC Rockwell taught us unique makeup techniques for the eyes, brows and lips to create the effects go beyond just feminine. I like how he took a spin on the typical cat eye, brows and red lips. Here are my key learnings (especially read the brows which made me purchase the new brow liner! haha)

1. Cat eye will work better with a contoured eye – especially for Chinita eyes, and can be extended or thickened further to create an uplifted effect. It is also best for droopy and tired-looking eyes.
2. Brows should be blended well in the inner part to create a fading effect. A shadow or soft pencil can be used to do this. The precision should come in the arch and the tail.
3. Perfectly contoured lips by concealing dark areas around the lip area.
